Subwoofer for Peachtree Audio M24

Subwoofer for Peachtree Audio M24

Peachtree Audio makes really good integrated amplifiers and is worth every single penny invested into them. We expect no less from their speakers as well and today we will be looking at the Peachtree Audio M24. This is a pair of powered bookshelf speakers which are compact in size and will be ideal to be part of a desktop setup.

Like all small bookshelf speakers, they typically have limited bass performance and will require a subwoofer to supplement them. Do the Peachtree Audio M24 powered speakers require a sub? Let’s find out.

Sound Characteristics and Limitations of Peachtree Audio M24

The Peachtree Audio M24 has an elegant and premium cabinet design, this does allow the powered speakers to look great inside most listening rooms. On further inspection, you will notice the 1″ (25mm) soft dome tweeter followed by a 4″ (100mm) fiberglass woofer below. Behind the speaker cabinet, you will spot a small rear-firing bass port. There is a high chance the M24 speakers are unable to deliver very deep bass frequencies even without looking at their frequency response spec. Fortunately, we also found a Sub Out for us to connect to an active subwoofer.

There are other notable features such as Bluetooth and a built-in D/A converter via the USB input. They may not look much but the Peachtree Audio M24 are engaging and entertaining speakers. They have a clean music delivery, easy to listen to, and more importantly, don’t sound unnatural. Peachtree Audio M24 speakers do not force out the low ends to make them sound big, it has just the right amount for our ears to notice the bass. Surprisingly, the M24 sound more full-bodied than expected.

They are still lightweight in the bass department though and don’t go deep enough to bring out the rumble. The midbass is also lacking the punch and impact. This is as expected from a speaker with only a 4″ woofer. Having support from a subwoofer is highly recommended and it will certainly improve the overall bass performance of your sound system. The added weight and presence provided by the sub will help increase the scale of the sound too.

We do have plenty of choices to go for if we were to only use the price point of the Peachtree Audio M24 as a benchmark. There are a few subwoofer models around this price range that could go below 30Hz bass extension. You should finalize how deep of a bass frequency you want the subwoofer to reach.
